Four people in Iowa have died this season following influenza-associated illness. According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, there were two influenza-related deaths last week in the state, and two the previous week. Overall, influenza activity in Iowa is still low and the geographic spread is local.
The percent of outpatient visits attributed to influenza-like illness is nearly double what it was at this time last year. Southeast Iowa had zero rapid influenza tests positive last week, but there were two cases of RSV that tested positive. Wash hands frequently, cover coughs and sneezes, and stay home when you’re sick to prevent the spread of illness. Also, it is recommended that those who are able, get a flu vaccine every year.
