The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls basketball team is on the floor for the first time this season tonight when they welcome River Valley Conference rival Durant to Wellman. The Golden Hawks are coming off of a season that saw them finish 12-10 a year ago, including 9-9 in the River Valley. The Hawks lost a pair of seniors to graduation from last year’s team, including leading scorer and rebounder Shae Becker. Becker finished her final season for the Hawks scoring 13 points per game and pulling in 137 total rebounds. The Golden Hawks also lost their assist and steals leader Kessa Jones, who finished last season with 53 helpers and 45 takeaways. The Golden Hawks do return second leading scorer and three point shooting leader Myah Lugar for her junior season. A year ago, Lugar finished with 58 made three point goals, fifth in the state and averaged 10 points per game. Mid-Prairie will turn to Maddie Nonnenmann on the glass with 107 total rebounds a year ago as a freshman.

Durant comes into the game off of a 2-18 season last year. The Wildcats were 2-16 in the River Valley a season ago. The Wildcats graduated four seniors from last year’s team including their two leading scorers in Kamryn Meyer and Hannah Happ who combined to average 24 points per game. Happ was also the team’s leader with 58 assists and 48 steals last season. Meyer led the Wildcats on the glass with 200 boards. These two teams met twice a season ago with the Golden Hawks sweeping both matchups.
