It was a strong start to the season for the Washington wrestling team, as they won two of three duals at HLV in the opener on Tuesday.

The Demons defeated Benton Community 48-33 and HLV 48-18, but fell to Iowa Valley 42-36 in part by not filling five weight classes. Washington had 15 pins on the evening headlined by Justin Simmering winning all three contested matches by fall at 138 lbs in a combined 11 minutes. Individuals with two contested match wins included Matt Collett at 126 lbs, Brandon Dickel at 132 lbs, Dillan Sanders at 145 lbs, Curtis Stender at 195 lbs, and Brayden Hartman at 285 lbs. Other winners for the Demons included Jack Kleese at 106 lbs, Ayden Frazier at 160 lbs, Jacob Hill at 170 lbs, and Colley Billingsley at 195 lbs.

The Demons get back on the mat tomorrow at Davenport Assumption.
