A factory that closed in Washington this fall may soon be in the hands of the city. Washington Economic Development Group (WEDG) Director David Collins told the Washington County Board of Supervisors this week what will be happening with the Whitesell building, “As you may know, the Whitesell property is kind of a silver-lining, they’ve offered to make that available to us at no cost to help create jobs within the Washington community. So the City of Washington and WEDG will be working together on that.” He says the hope is to have access to the building and ownership by the end of March. Whitesell closed this fall, eliminating more than 30 jobs in Washington. Collins said WEDG will continue with the goal of job creation and growth of existing businesses in the county. He adds that with low unemployment rates locally, there’s a need for more workers and a need for more housing for those workers to live in.
