The Highland boys basketball team started their season off right with a win on Tuesday over Louisa-Muscatine while the girls had a hard time with the Falcons.
Under first year head coach Bill Zywiec, the Huskie boys jumped out to a 21-9 advantage after one and 29-15 at the break. The lead continued to grow to as much as 30 in the second half and Highland cruised to a 61-42 victory. Four players finished in double figures led by Zack Lasek and Mason McFarland each with 14. Bill Laughlin had 12 while Cole Adamson recorded 10 points and six steals.
The Huskie girls hung with the undefeated Falcons for a while but ran out of steam in a 61-41 loss. After trailing 31-15 at half, Highland cut it to nine at the end of three, but too much Falcon firepower salted the game away in the fourth. Alyssa Brase led the Huskies with 11 points and 12 rebounds while Abbi Stransky recorded eight points.
The boys start the year 1-0 and the girls drop to 1-3. Both teams get back on the court tonight at Holy Trinity.
