A prank phone call of a school shooting happened in Mt. Pleasant and one juvenile was taken to a detention facility. According to the Mt. Pleasant Police Department, at 1:47 p.m. Wednesday a 911 call was received of a shooting at the Mt. Pleasant Community High School. Officers responded and contacted school officials while en route. The school officials advised they did not have a school shooting that they were aware of and immediately went into lockdown. Officers cleared the building and determined it was a prank call.

The phone number was located and the owner of the phone was identified. A male juvenile was taken to the Mt. Pleasant Police Department, where he was turned over to the juvenile courts and taken to a juvenile detention facility.

Police Chief Lyle Murray stated, “I think all organizations involved are using it as a scary learning opportunity. We hope we never have a real situation arise, but we all want to be prepared if it does. All parties involved did a wonderful job and I think it shows how great our community is when dealing with a stressful situation.” The name of the juvenile was not released. The Mt. Pleasant Police were assisted by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol.
