The Iowa Department of Public Safety applauded three members of the Sigourney Fire and Rescue team with a statewide honor. Public Safety Commissioner Stephan Bayens, along with Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds and Lieutenant Governor Adam Gregg, recognized heroism from first responders and firefighters across the state in a ceremony in the Iowa Capitol Rotunda this week. A total of 20 individuals were recognized for their courageous work including a trio from Sigourney. Firefighters Joshua Myers, Joseph White and Zachery Steinhart of Sigourney Fire and Rescue were awarded the Sullivan Brothers’ Award of Valor. The distinction is given to those peace officers and firefighters who, while serving in an official capacity, distinguished themselves by the performance of an heroic act in excess of normal demands of police or fire service where the person was fully aware of the threat to his or her personal safety.
