The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestling team went 1-1 on their road trip to Regina on Thursday. The Golden Hawks opened the night falling to Monticello 48-36. The Hawks got wins in contested matches from Cael Garvey at 170 by fall, Josh Wallington at 220 by fall and Gannon Callahan at 285 by fall. The Hawks rebounded to take the nightcap over Regina 52-21. Mid-Prairie got wins in the second dual from Owen Trimpe at 152 by 13-2 major decision, Vinnie Bowlin at 160 by fall, Cael Garvey at 170 by fall and Gannon Callahan at 285 by fall. After the meet, Mid-Prairie head coach Justin Garvey talked about his team’s night. “Cael Garvey and Gannon Callahan stand out tonight especially. Garvey had a big night with two pins. He got to his offense and looked strong and in control.  We saw a glimpse of maturity. Gannon Callahan looked good out there too. He secured the tech fall and got the pin. It’s good to see him put up points. He’s a guy that’s okay with winning 3-2 but we are trying to break him of that and it’s good to see him take that step.”

Mid-Prairie is now 5-3 on the year and will be in action today at their weekend tournament in Wellman.
