For the first time in 12 years, the Mid-Prairie wrestling team hosted a weekend tournament, the Colton Allen Memorial Tournament Saturday. The Hawks didn’t disappoint, posting a runner-up finish in a tough field and crowning five champions on the day. Mid-Prairie finished with 165.5 points, tied with Alburnett, Ankeny Centennial won the team title in the round robin tournament with 199 points.
Vinny Bowlin won the championship for the Hawks at 160lbs, finishing unbeaten at 5-0. Cael Garvey was the champion at 170lbs, ending his day undefeated at 5-0. Isaac Boucher brought home gold with his 5-0 day at 195lbs. Josh Wallington was meet champ at 220lbs with a 5-0 finish and Gannon Callahan rolled through his bracket unbeaten at heavyweight going 5-0. After the meet, Mid-Prairie head coach Justin Garvey talked about his team’s day. “To see us come out and have five champions today was really impressive. It was great to see them wrestle well, they are a tight group. Everyone had something to build on. This season has been a fun ride already and we are only two weeks in.”
The Golden Hawks now get ready for their final week before Christmas with a junior varsity tournament at City High on Monday, a varsity tournament at North Linn on Saturday and a junior varsity and women’s tournament at Wilton on Saturday.
