A strong performance on the mat propelled the Columbus Community/Winfield-Mt. Union wrestling team to a third place finish out of 12 teams at Tri-County’s tournament on Saturday.
The Wildcats tallied 128 points and Eddyville-Blakesburg won it all with 211. WACO finished eighth with 74 points and Lone Tree was 10th with 50. The Wildcats had a pair of champions with Lane Scorpil (8-0) placing first at 106 lbs with two pins in a combined 1:45 and Cameron Rice (9-0) at 152 lbs by three pins compiling 4:51. Second place performers included Garrett Palmer at 132 lbs, Noah Freeman at 170 lbs, and Robert Loveless at 182 lbs. Jaden Williams (8-1) scored a title for the Warriors at 160 lbs beating both opponents by fall in 4:22. Ryan Maschmann was third at 132 lbs and Isaiah Johnson was third at 182 lbs. Timothy Mills led the Lions in second at 220 lbs and Will Hotz was fourth at 170 lbs.
