Dreams of a white Christmas will not come to fruition in southeast Iowa this year. State Climatologist Justin Glisan tells KCII News that data from the last 30 years shows that southeast Iowa doesn’t usually have a white Christmas and that looks to be the case this year, “What our probabilities show for southeast Iowa is anywhere from a 30-40% chance historically for having a white Christmas. Now the set up this year is in fact looking toward a trend for warmer than average temperatures during the week of Christmas. So we’re seeing high temperatures in the 40s, lows in the upper-20s and a fairly quiet weather pattern.” That quiet weather pattern doesn’t show much precipitation in the area this week.
