The Keota Eagle boys and girls basketball teams closed the first half of the season Friday with a split at Lynnville-Sully against the Hawks. The Eagle girls fell by a 54-18 score. Lynnville-Sully came out firing, rolling to a 21-6 lead after one period and used a 14-2 run that spanned the entire second quarter to take a 35-8 advantage into the halftime break. Out of the locker room it was more of the same with the Hawks sprinting out to a 14-3 run that lasted the entire third quarter and enacted the continuous clock. Cally Gibbs and Krystal Van Dyke led Lynnville with 14 points each. Sky Weber led Keota at seven points. With the loss, the Keota girls enter the holiday break at 1-8.

The Keota boys torched the nets and the Hawks on Friday taking a 92-61 win. The Eagles led 22-12 after the first eight minutes and continued that momentum with 28 points in the second quarter to hold a 50-27 lead at the half. After an even third quarter, the Eagles put up 26 in the fourth to put the game out of reach. Luke Hammen had 26 points, including four made three point goals. JD Stout added 21, Carson Sprouse 14 and Wyatt Sieren 10. With the win, Keota goes into the break with a 7-1 overall record.
