The Columbus Wildcat boys and girls basketball teams stepped outside of the Superconference last week, traveling to Wilton for a doubleheader. The Wildcat girls fell to the Beavers 58-22. The game started Wilton’s way with the Beavers putting together a 17-6 run that lasted the entire first quarter, and following that with a 19-4 run that took up the second period to take a 36-10 lead into the break. The third quarter was more of the same as Wilton raced out on a 17-7 run that spanned the full frame and finished the win. Olivia Carrier and Lizbeth Paz led the Wildcats, each with six points. Columbus is now 0-9 going into break.

The Columbus boys dropped their contest with the Beavers 67-56. Wilton held a slim 9-8 lead after the games first eight minutes but the Wildcats outscored Wilton 16-14 in the second quarter to take a 24-23 lead into the locker room. The second half however, belonged to Wilton. The Beavers outscored the Wildcats 44-32 the rest of the way including 24-16 in the fourth quarter to take the win. Eric Valdez posted 25 to lead Columbus, Mason Hodges had 11. With the loss, Columbus is 0-9 on the season.
