Friday featured two area basketball schools in Riverside, as the Highland basketball teams swept Columbus in a doubleheader to finish the 2019 portion of the schedule.

The Huskie girls put a halt to a losing skid and came away with a 68-32 victory. They won every quarter including leading 34-14 at the break with the margin continuing to get steeper the rest of the way. Highland had three players in double figures led by a 17-point performance from Alyssa Brase, Kayla Cerny had 11, and Jenna Sands recorded 10. Olivia Carrier had eight points to lead the Wildcats. Highland is now 2-9 and Columbus drops to 0-9.

The Huskie boys zoomed out to a 23-5 lead after one and kept the gas on en route to a 53-20 win. Head Coach Bill Zywiec tells KCII Sports his team was ready to go from the start. “We knew they were going to sit in a 2-3 zone and we didn’t want to have to slow the pace down. We came out and did what we needed in the first quarter and cruised from there. It was nice to get a lot of kids in and get some experience on the court.”

Brody Frost and Mason Hodges each had six points for the Wildcats.

Highland improves to 7-1 and Columbus is 0-8.
