The Sigourney girls basketball team has spent the entire pre-Christmas break portion of the schedule ranked in the top 10 by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and they have put up the numbers to back it up. The Savages are one of the most efficient offenses in the state, ranking eighth in class 1A, shooting 41% as a team. Kaylee Weber leads the Savages shooting 33 of 64 from the floor, a 52% clip. Sigourney has also committed the fewest turnovers in the state, just 55 through their first eight games, less than seven per contest. Defensively, the Savages have been stingy, surrendering just 239 points on the year, eighth fewest in class 1A and an average of just under 30 per contest. Those numbers have helped the Savages to an average margin of victory of 19 points.
The Savages are currently ranked seventh in the latest poll from the IGHSAU, have a 6-2 overall record and kick off the second half of the season Tuesday when they host North Mahaska for a South Iowa Cedar League doubleheader.
