The Highland Middle School First Lego League team has submitted a grant to the Riverside City Council in order to build new bathrooms. Students were tasked with their yearly project from the First Lego League, and they decided to remodel the bathrooms at Conservation Park in Riverside. Head coach Samantha Holden outlined how her team came across the idea, “One of the girls on the team looked like, ‘I think we need to rebuild it because it scares me to go in there.’ So, they researched what it would cost for all kinds of different things. Siding, a new roof, new toilet paper holders, new toilets, and just to completely rebuild this bathroom using the frames, but adding onto it. So, they came up with a whole design for the bathroom at Conservation Park.”
With a little help from the high school robotics team, the students had a 3D model of the brand new bathroom that they proposed to the Riverside City Council. Currently, the team is in the process of applying for a $3,500 grant and looking for donated materials and volunteers. Holden says those who want to donate or volunteer can go through RACC, the Riverside Area Community Club, or contact herself via email at samiholden@gmail.com. The students are aiming to have the new bathrooms completed by the spring.
