Snow, ice, and cold temperatures have made it difficult to clean both paved and gravel roads. At Tuesday’s Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting, County Engineer Jacob Thorius said the weather has not been cooperative in the last week with efforts to clear roads, “We are doing what we can to try to roughen up the gravel roads. The paved roads I think we made big progress yesterday and we’re making better progress today with the warmth and the sunshine. With the gravel roads there’s unfortunately not a lot that we can do. We’re not going to put salt on a gravel road, that’ll get rid of the ice but you’ll have a lot bigger problems later. We’re trying to scratch, scrape, and rough up as much as we can. We just ask for peoples’ patience just the same.” He said crews have worked late this week to make sure that every road has been treated at least once.
