Preparations for the Shiloh annexation have moved forward and are ready for the next step. At Monday’s Kalona City Council, Adam Kos with C.J. Moyna and Sons presented a map of what the land could be used for in the near future. He says, these ideas are still a work in progress, “I wanted to provide something tonight, but purposefully made it fairly bland. There’s a lot that has to go into this yet from a design standpoint, from a planning and zoning standpoint, preliminary planning, trying to get some things into the design aspect of it. So we’ve got some work to do. Looking at some utility corridors, elevations, some grading plans, a lot of those things will change. The alignments of the streets. We want to do a very efficient and economical in what we are doing, and be very thoughtful in our process moving forward.”

The map outlines various projects the city could pursue in the near future, including single-family housing, bike trails, and room for future projects. For now, the process has moved to creating a developers agreement with C.J. Moyna and Sons to be able to work on the property. Ryan Schlabaugh outlined the next steps in this annexation process, “The timeline is that we will put the supervisors on notice when they get the formal paperwork, and then they have 30 days at the supervisory level to review. It’s part of the developer’s agreement and making sure those dominos fall. It’s hard to annex it and then ask to do subdivision work.” The Council approved the motion to create the developers agreement and continue the annexation process further.
