The second annual Iowa High School Girls State Wrestling Tournament will start up today in Waverly and Washington will be represented.

Freshman Teegan Sulentich will join nearly 400 wrestlers across the state for the event, which is a big jump from just over 100 competitors in last year’s inaugural tournament. Sulentich has competed at the varsity and junior varsity levels this winter while compiling a 5-10 record at 152 and 160 lbs. Head Coach Brent Van Weelden tells KCII Sports it will be a great experience for her. “Her weight class is loaded with 35 wrestlers. It will be fun for her to go participate and see how she compares against other girls around the state.”

The Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association is hosting the event and day one of two gets underway at 5 p.m. tonight at Waverly-Shell Rock High School.
