Before Washington County Attorney John Gish reports for deployment with the U.S. Army Reserve a day will be held in his honor. The Washington County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to proclaim February 7th as Major John Gish Day. Chairman Jack Seward presented the proclamation to Gish at the meeting, “Whereas the Washington County Board of Supervisors publicly offers on behalf of the entire county our support and sincere appreciation and gratitude to Major John Gish, the Washington County Attorney, as he answers the call to service. Therefore, on this fourth day of February 2020, the Washington County Board of Supervisors hereby proclaims that February 7th, 2020 will be designated as Major John Gish Day in Washington County, Iowa.”
Gish said thank you, “[It’s] quite an honor, very overwhelmed with this act and I will gratefully accept this on behalf of all other service members and veterans in Washington County. Thank you.” Gish will be deployed in Kuwait as an Engineer Officer for approximately one year.
While he is deployed, his county salary is being withheld at his request. In Gish’s absence, attorney Anthony Janney with over 30 years of experience has been hired to fill in. Gish will report to Fort Hood, Texas in and after several weeks will deploy to Kuwait.
