After releasing the full 100% of precinct results for the Iowa caucus on Thursday night, the Iowa Democratic Party announced a deadline extension for recanvass requests. On Friday, the IDP said due to delays in reporting and some inconsistencies in data, campaigns have until noon Saturday (2/8) to submit documentary evidence of inconsistencies between data reported and the record of result. Also, the deadline for a campaign to file a request for recanvass or recount was extended to noon Monday.

Washington County Democratic Party Chair Kim Davis said locally the caucuses ran well but she’s been disappointed in the delay in results at the state level, “For all of us to be working so hard on this whole thing and really do our job, and make sure that we got out the vote, and make sure we were organized, trained and ready to go, and then for us to not be able to report the data or to see inconsistencies in the data it’s just a huge let down not just to all the people who worked their butts off to make this thing go, but also to the voters, the first-time voters who came out and were excited about the process, and really felt good when they left.”

A recount, if requested, would have the IDP audit the paper records reported from each precinct, as they were signed by precinct chairs and representatives of presidential campaigns. The recount committee is made up of nine members of the Iowa Democratic Party. Thursday’s full results show Pete Buttigieg with a narrow lead over Bernie Sanders, followed by Elizabeth Warren, then Joe Biden, and in fifth Amy Klobuchar.
