A junior from the Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment in Fairfield was named a distinguished finalist for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award. This award is given to middle and high school students based solely on their volunteerism in their communities, and are named either a State Honoree or Distinguished Finalist. Shristi Sharma was selected as a distinguished finalist for her work with “Girls Who Code”, a club which teaches girls in grades 3-12 about computer programs. She also set up a similar free online program to teach girls in India about coding. Those named State Honorees will travel to Washington, D.C. and participate in recognition events and tour the city.
