The KCII listening area will once again have plenty of representation at state wrestling this week in Des Moines, as several class 1A competitors placed in the top two at districts on Saturday.

WACO had a memorable day at English Valleys with all three competitors moving on. Jalen Collins stood on top of the podium at 132 lbs winning by fall in 1:05 and an 8-5 decision in the title match. Fellow senior Jaden Williams also placed first at 152 lbs with two quick pins in a combined 30 seconds. Jonah Clark split his first two matches at 145 lbs and then got a pin in 57 seconds in the wrestle back round to claim second. Sigourney-Keota’s Mason Dye was a district champ at 126 lbs with a pair of falls in a combined 4:18. Jack Clarahan is also moving on by placing second at 152 lbs on the strength of a first round pin in 5:05. Cobras that just missed the cut included Nate Schuster third at 160 lbs and Aidan Schuster fourth at 170 lbs. Highland’s Bryce Thompson was top dog at 106 lbs with a 13-9 decision victory and fall in 2:55. Cael Yeggy was a first time state qualifier placing second at 182 lbs going 2-1 on the day. Fourth place Huskie finishes included Easton Schlabaugh at 113 lbs, Carlos Valenzuela at 120 lbs, and Eli Slaymaker at 195 lbs.

WACO had a solid team finish in third with 53 points while New London won it all with 121.5. Sigourney-Keota was sixth with 44 and Highland was 10th with 32.

Lone Tree had two wrestlers in the Wilton district with Tim Mills just on the outside looking in placing third at 220 lbs and Will Hotz was fourth at 170 lbs.
