The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys basketball team travels to No. 6 Camanche Thursday for the second round of the class 2A district boys tournament. Mid-Prairie advanced by Wilton on Monday 54-42 behind strong bench play led by Chris Miller and his 12 points and 10 from Brody Miller. On the year the Hawks are led by Carter Harmsen at 13 points per game. Aidan Rath is best on the glass at 119 boards and Brad Tornow leads the Hawks with 86 assists.
Camanche comes into the game ranked No. 6 in the latest poll from the Iowa Associated Press. The Indians had a bye in the first round and enter play with an 18-3 overall record. Last time out the Indians rolled by West Branch on the road 79-54 behind 22 from Cameron Soenksen and 17 points and 10 rebounds from Caleb Delzell. On the season, the Indians are led by Delzell at 15 points per game. He is also the team leader with 179 rebounds. Zach Ervin leads the Indians with 61 assists. These two teams met earlier this season with the Indians scoring a 70-33 win in Wellman behind 14 from LJ Henderson. Ethan Trimpe had 12 to lead Mid-Prairie. This week, Golden Hawk head coach Daren Lambert talked about facing Camanche a second time and what the Hawks need to do to have success. “It’s the end of the year, not surprising to see our seniors step up. They know if they don’t pull it out, it’s the end of their career. They keep fighting, that’s our mantra the rest of the year ‘fight to play one more game’. Camanche took it to us at our place earlier in the year but now it’s playoff basketball so anything can happen. I know our guys are going to be hungry, not back down, and go after that sixth win in a row.”
