A pair of wrestlers from the KCII listening area were on the mat on the final day of the 2019-2020 season in Des Moines. On championship Saturday at the state tournament, in class 2A, Columbus Winfield-Mt. Union’s No. 8 ranked Lane Scorpil took sixth place, dropping a pair of matches. Scorpil was pinned by No. 4 Cole Nelson of Humboldt to open the day and in the fifth place match, fell to Carter Kolthoff of BCLUW to take sixth place on the podium.
In class 1A, Sigourney-Keota’s Mason Dye split his two Saturday bouts. He was beaten by No. 6 Wyatt Reisz of Logan-Magnolia in sudden victory before rebounding to take down Quinten Aney of Mediapolis by 7-3 decision in the seventh place match.
Both Scorpil and Dye made the podium during Saturday night’s awards presentation and participated in the parade of champions to open the finals round. You can find stories about how each area wrestler finished and a recap of each day of action from Des Moines on our website at KCIIradio.com.
