Producers have until Friday for general signup for the 2020 Conservation Reserve Program. Farmers and private landowners can take part in this signup whether they are enrolling for the first time or re-enrolling for another 10- or 15-year term. Those who have land enrolled in CRP receive yearly rental payments for long-term conservation practices. This year marks the 35th anniversary of CRP and in that time, it’s helped prevent more than 9 billion tons of soil from eroding, reduced nitrogen and phosphorus runoff, and sequestered an average of 49 million tons of greenhouse gases. Also, the program has helped create more than three million acres of restored wetlands. These efforts have benefited bees, ducks, pheasants, turkeys, bobwhite quail, prairie chickens, and many other species. To enroll in CRP contact your local Farm Services Agency county office.
