South Avenue E will be undergoing improvements this summer in Washington. The city council approved the estimated $1.2 million project at their meeting Tuesday. City Administrator Brent Hinson says this will be a safety improvement on the southwest side of town, “So this would be new pavement, turning kind of a cowpath into a real street from Sitler down to Lincoln. So it’s tying in Timber Ridge subdivision real nicely, includes sidewalk to Timber Ridge to connect that in which I think will be a nice safety improvement for anybody that lives in Timber Ridge or Oakwood and may cut through somebody’s backyard to get here, because unfortunately we do not have good pedestrian access to Timber Ridge or the country club area at this point.” The work south of the high school will also include a water main loop, installation of a new storm sewer main, drainage structures, a retaining wall, and sidewalks.
