Washington County Treasurer Jeff Garrett is reminding residents that the second half of real estate and mobile home taxes are due in March. They were due March 1st and must be paid by March 31st. Those that do not come in before the deadline will have a penalty of 1.5% per month with a $1 minimum per parcel. Payments must be accompanied by statements. Payment for property taxes can be made in person at the treasurer’s office, mailed to PO Box 889 in Washington, or deposited in the drop box at the west entrance of the courthouse. They can also be paid online at iowatreasurers.org.

Taxes that remain unpaid on May 31st will be advertised as delinquent and those remaining unpaid on June 15 will be offered at the annual tax sale.
