The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk jazz band will be competing at the Iowa Jazz Championships in April. The Mid-Prairie jazz band placed first in class 2A during the Southeast Iowa Bandmasters Association Jazz Festival. Their finish qualified the Golden Hawks to advance to the statewide contest. The Winfield-Mt. Union band was one of only two to compete in Class 1A and was not selected to advance.
The Golden Hawks last made the statewide competition in 2019, and this year it will take place at Iowa State University on April 7th. Tickets for the day time performances will be $10 and are not sold in advance. The evening performances are free for all to attend. The Mid-Prairie band will be performing in the Scheman Building at the University’s campus.
