Phase one of the West Park Wetlands project in Wayland is set to be complete this summer. This $250,000 project will see the addition of a splash pad and updated bathrooms. It is to be completed by late May. City Clerk Beverly Conrad tells KCII News her excitement to see families enjoying the additions to the park, “We would love for the families to utilize the park because it’s such a great park and it’s our biggest park in town. It just hasn’t been utilized because we needed to get it upgraded and add some more amenities to it. And Parkview is going to love it too. They can watch all the activity going on over there as well.” The City of Wayland afforded this project by setting aside $100,000 from their budget from local sales tax, $75,000 from local fundraisers and grants, and continued fundraisers and city money to move this project forward. Phase two of the project will add new playground equipment and a half mile long concrete walking trail around the park. Phase two is planned to be completed next spring.
