A lawsuit against the City of Keota has been filed in the Southern District Court of Iowa. The lawsuit was filed against the City of Keota, the mayor, and the police department. The lawsuit was filed by Keota resident Laci Droll in response to a pit bull ban in the city code. The council recently agreed to uphold the mayor’s decision to write citations to Droll for a pit bull she owns in town. She originally had citations written for two pit bulls, but one recently passed away. Droll has been paying fines up to $400 according to court documents and has filed a temporary restraining order so the city cannot enforce the ban while litigation against the ban is pending. The most recent update saw an Affidavit of Service, or the delivery of case-related papers, sent to the three parties involved. No court hearings have yet been set for this lawsuit.
