As schools across Iowa are closed for four weeks, the Washington School Board held a special session meeting to discuss wages for staff Thursday. The board approved to continue regular wages during the COVID-19 closure. Superintendent Willie Stone explained it is for all staff, “We had told staff, we’re going to take care of all of our staff throughout this, throughout this four weeks that the governor has recommended to close us down. In order for us to be able to do that we had to take it to the board and the board had to approve it.” The days of school lost to the COVID-19 closure will not have to be made up at the end of the year. Stone added that the school board is looking at digital platforms to hold meetings moving forward. Thursday’s meeting had two people in person and the rest joined by phone.
