The Washington County Board of Supervisors conducted routine business with their weekly regular session meeting Tuesday. The meeting was open to the public both in person and online in an effort to provide a way to view public business while social distancing and preventing the spread of COVID-19.

At the meeting, the supervisors approved a letter of support for the City of Kalona’s annexation plans for Shiloh property. The Kalona City Council will be holding public hearings in the coming weeks. At the meeting, Kalona City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh said at current tax rates estimated projections show if some of the area is developed in a 10-year build out plan there’d be an increase in property tax at about $900,000 for the city of Kalona, $1.1 million for the Mid-Prairie School District, and $684,000 for the county.

The supervisors also discussed further ways to provide meetings online for the public to view.
