The Highland Community School District will be handing out free prepackaged meals to children around the community. The school announced children ages 18 years and younger, regardless if they go to Highland schools, are able to receive meals on Mondays and Wednesdays. Packages will include a full breakfast and lunch and will include items such as: grain, fruit or fruit juice, meat or meat alternate equivalent, a vegetable, and cold ready to eat or heat and eat meals. Pickup locations will be at the Ainsworth Ball Association Concession Stand and Riverside Elementary from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Mondays and Wednesdays. Meals will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Meals may contain common allergens such as peanuts, nuts, wheat, milk, soy, and dairy, but students and families can contact Food and Nutrition Director Rachel Cerny for item specific information. Schedules and menus are subject to change based on the first two days of service. The schools ask children to take their lunches back to their homes and send someone who has not been ill or exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 to pick up the packages.
