Pleasantview Home in Kalona has announced a non-direct care staff member has been confirmed to have COVID-19. The nursing home staff believes this is a case of community spread transmission of the virus. The staff member will remain in self-quarantine under medical supervision until they have met the guidelines set forth by the Iowa Department of Public Health. Pleasantview Home Executive Director Jeffery Schmidt says they have taken the recommended preventative actions by restricting visitors from entering the facility, and cancelled all group activities within the building to protect their residents and staff. As of Friday, Iowa has 235 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 11 of those in Washington County, one in Iowa County, two in Henry County, and 58 in Johnson County. The Iowa Department of Public Health is urging people to practice social distancing, to stay home when they’re ill, and to frequently wash hands with soap and water for 20 seconds to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
