Iowa 4-H members, alumni, volunteers and staff met a challenge to make and donate 10,000 face masks and they did it in just nine days. Some of those masks were made by 4-Hers in Washington County, using their hands to larger service, including Peighton Ford, Donna Palmer, and Taylor Bartholomew. The face masks are used as personal protective equipment by many people including those in the healthcare industry as the COVID-19 pandemic continues. The program has also been expanded to including sewing surgical caps. The donations were distributed to hospitals, residential services, nonprofit organizations, emergency medical services, local businesses, and family and friends who needed them.
Fabric is available for pickup in the entrance of the Washington County Extension Office for people to create masks or gowns that are needed in the county.
