The Winfield-Mount Union school board is moving forward with a shared superintendent agreement with the Columbus Community School District. A letter was sent out to multiple schools in order to gauge who would be interested in sharing superintendent duties with the Columbus Community School District. Both school districts have seen declines in student enrollment in recent years, and sharing this position will save both districts some money. This one-year agreement is a 60/40 agreement, meaning that W-MU receives 60 percent of the days, and Columbus receives 40 percent of the days. W-MU Superintendent Jeff Maeder says he will be the individual to take over that position when it becomes official. The Columbus Community School Board will have to approve this agreement at their next school board meeting in order for it to become official. Maeder says the cost of this position will not be released until further decisions between the two districts are made. Current Columbus Superintendent Gary Benda says with this decision, he will have to look for a job elsewhere.
