Mid-Prairie soccer standout Ashten VanWinkle has determined his plans for academics and athletics at the collegiate level. The Golden Hawk senior will attend Simpson College in Indianola and join the Storm men’s soccer program. In his first three years with the Mid-Prairie soccer program, VanWinkle played in 20 total matches, starting 17 of them. He scored 25 goals in his career and had seven assists. As a sophomore he led the Hawks and finished second in the River Valley Conference with 15 goals and tallied six assists. His biggest game came in that second year, scoring six goals in a match win over Wapello in May. He battled through injuries his junior season, finishing with eight goals. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, VanWinkle and fellow seniors Mason Hartley, Levi Stultz, and Cole Davis will not get their final season on the pitch. Last fall the Storm men finished 16-4-2, falling in the semi-finals of the American Rivers Conference Tournament.
