The new $9.5 million Washington YMCA facility is less than a month away from completion. CEO Amy Schulte says they’re on track to be complete on May 15th, at which time they’ll move the five blocks from the current facility. The new gym and walking track are both ready to go.
Schulte says the project came in under budget as contingency funds were not used. She said they were transparent with organizations that provided grant funding, including the Washington County Riverboat Foundation, on how those dollars can be used to further improve the facility including new office furniture instead of repurposing existing furniture, added landscaping, a storage shed for their outdoor equipment, and more exercise machines, “Some of the things that the members are going to really appreciate is we were able to add a few additional cardio pieces, some machines that we didn’t have planned for before previously, and some strength machines, a hip-thrust machine. I know we had a lot of members make some requests on some items that they would love to see in the new building that we haven’t had before. So, we’re really excited to be able to offer those.”
At this time, they are still planning on a grand opening event the first week of June. The new facility is located at the corner of West 5th Street and North Avenue D.
