The Washington School District has completed its first week of virtual learning and is gathering information on how it is going for students. A survey is available online and parents are encouraged to fill one out for each child. Washington High School students are required to participate in the online classes as it helps them complete required credits to graduate. It is optional for middle school and elementary school students.
Superintendent Mr. Stone encourages students and parents with questions to reach out and contact teachers through Schoology. Stone shared some advice for parents, “If it becomes really stressful then step back from it, allow your kids to step back from it. A lot of people are going through a big change and sometimes you’ve just got to step back and take a breath. So, push forward if you can, but if you can’t, especially if you’re K-8, I’ve given you permission to step back and let your kids. The most important thing is getting through this with your family healthy and happy.”
The school district is continuing to provide free lunches for students on Mondays and Wednesdays. Stone says they’re seeing an average of 650-700 students fed per day. This Wednesday they sent just over 2,100 meals for students to have Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
He added that at this time the district is looking at options for graduation and are sending a survey out to seniors to see what they prefer.
