Washington High School students will receive either a pass or no credit on transcripts for classes this term. Washington School District explained that due to school closures from COVID-19, the Iowa Department of Education has suggested that districts use local discretion to determine whether students have completed sufficient work to consider units complete. Students will be graded on the accuracy of completion and if a student earns 60% or higher they will receive a passing grade for their transcript. If it is below they will receive no credit.
Superintendent Willie Stone shared advice for parents, “If it becomes really stressful then step back from it, allow your kids to step back from it. A lot of people are going through a big change and sometimes you’ve just got to step back and take a breath. So, push forward if you can, but if you can’t, especially if you’re K-8, I’ve given you permission to step back and let your kids. The most important thing is getting through this with your family healthy and happy.”
If parents or students have questions, they are asked to contact teachers via Schoology. If students have internet or technical issues they should contact Mrs. Hippen for assistance. Washington High School has been doing required online learning since April 13th.
