The Riverside City Council is discussing with Washington County Ambulance Director Jeremy Peck about the potential of adding an ambulance service for the city of Riverside. At Monday’s work session, the council discussed three options for an ambulance service in Riverside; a standalone department, a joint department with Washington County, or continuing with no department at all in Riverside. City Administrator Christine Yancey says the city of Riverside has already created an ambulance bay which includes sleeping and living quarters. Yancey says this ambulance bay was established when the new fire station was built in 2006, with the idea of an ambulance service operating in Riverside in the future. While no official decisions have been made, calculated start-up figures are estimated to be $523,000. Yancey says the council will continue to discuss this potential service in future council meetings. Riverside currently is in the county ambulance’s coverage area.
