The City of Kalona will be holding their spring cleanup day next Saturday. The city announced a new location for this year’s cleanup day. Residents will be able to drop off unwanted items at the Kalona City Shop at 711 A Avenue. Items that will be accepted include lawn mowers, roto-tillers, microwaves, dehumidifiers, televisions, tires, and other bulk items. This is a reduced-price program and not free. Appliances will cost $15 to dispose of, tires will be $5 or $15 if it’s on the rim, and $60 per ton for bulk items or $3 for every 100 pounds. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says the city will follow Iowa Department of Public Health COVID-19 guidelines and allow individuals to stay in their cars as items are taken. Schlabaugh also says this is a great way to dispose of items as landfills are wary on items taken in from individuals at this time. The event will run from 8 to 11 a.m. on May 9th.
