Iowa added nearly 750 positive cases of COVID-19 to the tally on Friday bringing the total to 7,884. According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, as of Friday 2,899 of those people have recovered and there have been 170 deaths. On Friday, some restrictions in 77 of Iowa’s counties started to be lifted, but Washington County is one of the 22 to extend restrictions through May 15th.
Washington County Emergency Management Coordinator Marissa Reisen says people in the 22 counties should continue practices like social distancing, limiting trips outside of the home, and washing hands frequently with soap and water, “Just because some of our bordering counties are in that 77 does not mean everybody in Washington County should rush to those open counties to sit in a restaurant or go enjoy something that you can’t do here. We still want to maintain our social distancing and keep our efforts up so that those counties also don’t see a spike in their numbers and that we don’t contribute to that.”
Washington County has had seven people die from the virus with 144 confirmed cases and 698 residents tested. Johnson County has had 475 cases and six deaths, Louisa County has had 274 cases and two deaths, Henry County has had 32 cases and one death, Iowa County has had 20 cases, Jefferson County has had six cases, and Keokuk County has had three cases.
