The Winfield-Mount Union Community School is receiving a new heating and cooling system as part of their multi-year facilities plan. This current project, being completed by Myers Construction, Brockway Mechanical and Roofing Company, and Tri-city Electric Company, will see a new boiler and HVAC system installed before the next school year begins. Superintendent Jeff Maeder says the project started a bit earlier than scheduled, “Everything’s going really well. When you deal with construction of an older building facility like we have you’re always anticipating that there’s probably going to be something that may come up and may cause the project to maybe cost more than the bids came in at. There’s always add ons and things like that. We really haven’t come across anything major so far and they are well into the demolition. Things are showing good signs that we’re going to stay on schedule and certainly staying, fingers crossed, close to being on budget.”
This project will cost the district around $2 million and is being funded through their Secure and Advanced Vision for Education revenue bond and some Physical Plant and Equipment Levy funds. Maeder says with the early start, the project looks to be completed by August 1st. Phase two and three of the facilities plan will see the removal of the portable classrooms, which currently house the kindergarten and preschool classes, an expansion of the cafeteria, and a new facility for the industrial arts and music programs. Phase two and three are set to kick off this summer.
