Our sixth biggest athletic story from the last academic year for Hillcrest Academy takes us back to November 26th, 2019 when history was made. For the first time under the new Hillcrest Academy banner, one of the school’s athletic teams, the girls basketball squad, posted a victory. The Raven girls went on the road and beat Tri-County 34-28 in a defensive slugfest. Hillcrest fell behind early, trailing 7-2 after one quarter, but continued to push forward as the night progressed, trailing 10-9 at the half before taking their first lead in the third quarter. The Ravens were up 19-18 going to the final frame and finished the game with a 15 point fourth quarter to seal the win.
Esther Hughes led the way for Hillcrest with 18 points including three, three point goals. Yani Gutierrez added 11 points. The Ravens would finish the season with a 2-20 overall record.
