A house caught fire on Iowa Avenue in Washington early Thursday morning. According to the Washington County Communications Office, at 2:27 a.m. the fire at 806 South Iowa Avenue was reported to authorities. The caller said that a lamp burned a hole in the carpet and they put water on it but the house was filling with smoke.

Firefighters from the Washington, Ainsworth, and Brighton Fire Departments extinguished the fire. Washington County Ambulance, Washington Police officers, and Alliant Energy assisted at the scene. No injuries were reported. Caution tape was put up around the house and siding had been peeled back on the second story where a window had been broken out.
