Libraries have received the greenlight from Governor Kim Reynolds to open, with restrictions, after temporarily shutting down due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The Kalona Public Library has opted to remain closed for the rest of the month. Co-Library Director Trevor Sherping tells KCII News why this decision was made, “We’re really proud of us being a community space. But, as a community space we don’t want everyone congregating and accidentally spreading the disease. I also don’t want to put my staff at risk. We decided waiting an extra two weeks would help to mitigate some of that.” The library will remain closed until at least May 31st. The curbside pickup program is available for patrons to take advantage of. Patrons must notify the library on Mondays or Thursdays of what items they would like checked out. Items will then be able to be picked up on Tuesdays and Fridays. Returned items will be quarantined for three days and cleaned on the fourth day to maintain the health and safety of patrons and library staff.
