The Hillcrest Academy Graduation Committee has decided to hold their graduation ceremony fully online in June. The committee hosted a Zoom meeting with Johnson County health officials to see whether or not an in-person graduation ceremony would be safe for everyone involved. In the end, the committee agreed to hold a virtual graduation ceremony on June 14th at 4 p.m. Principal Dwight Gingerich tells KCII News how the committee felt about this decision, “I think that there’s going to be some disappointment and that’s just going to be how it is. It’s one of those deals that you’re not going to please everyone, but I think that everyone in the committee certainly heard the recommendations, which are very clear, and felt good about going in that direction is how it felt to me.” Hillcrest Academy will be graduating 18 seniors and will name their valedictorian and salutatorian after classes wrap up this week. Gingerich says the event will be livestreamed on the Hillcrest Academy Facebook page for the public to watch the ceremony.
