The City of Riverside is preparing to reopen city hall. The City Council’s preliminary discussions on reopening included physical changes to their lobby in order to protect city staff. City Clerk Becky LaRoche says these changes will include thicker windows, akin to banks, where the only access between the public and staff is a small hole at the base of the window. The cost of this remodeling and timeline for completion will be discussed at the June 1 city council meeting. LaRoche tells KCII News when the public could see city hall open up, “It looks like to me by the time these parts and pieces come in and stuff it’ll be July by the time we’re open, as far as unlocked open. We’re open now and people can knock on the door or they can call ahead of time. We’re able to conduct business as always, it’s just people have to use the dropbox or mail or the online payment.” LaRoche says cleaning and sanitization measures will be ramped up when the public is allowed into the building once again. The City will follow closely with other cities in Washington County as more reopening plans are finalized. They will also consider information from county public health officials and Governor Kim Reynolds on restrictions and social distancing.
